The book of “Khulasat Al-Wafa” narrated that it is: a site of an arid land protected to provide animal feed for special cattle. Several sites were known for such characteristic, including Hima Al-Naqi’e (The Protectorate of Al-Naqi’e). It denotes any site where water collects to form a swamp. This valley was named after it. Ibn Shabba said that it was a prolific valley. Al-Hijri quoted that it was the first, best and most noble protectorate, extending one buraid (a distance of 12 miles) long and one mile wide, as the Prophet (PBUH), when he protected it for the horses of Muslims, ordered a man with loud voice, who cried loudly, and his voice echoed in the wild. It is a prolific land where legumes and Tamarix shrubs grew, with extensive plants forming bushes. The one riding there would take a long time to cross it. It has shady thorny shrubs, Gharqad (Nitraria or Oxthorn) trees, Al-Sidr (Rhamnus Frangula – Alder Buckthorn) trees, Al-Seyal (Red Acacia) trees, Al-Salam (Acacia ehrenbergiana) trees, Al-Talh (Acacia) trees, Al-Samor (Acacia tortilis) trees, and Al-Awsaj (Lycium barbarum – Buckthorn) trees. Al-Sa’ab bin Khuthama was quoted as saying that the Prophet (PBUH). Al-Sa’ab bin Khuthama was quoted as saying that the Prophet (PBUH) protected Al-Naqi’e and said: “I protect only for the sake of Allah.” Al-Zubair added: “And his Messenger and for Ahmad.” Ibn Omar was quoted as saying: “The Prophet (PBUH) protected Al-Naqi’e for the horses. I said to him: “For his horses. He said: “No, for the horses of Muslims.” In another narrative: “He protected Al-Naqi’e for the horses, and protected Al-Rabadha (a historic town to the north of Medina) for the almsgiving.” Haisam Al-Muzni was quoted as saying that the Prophet (PBUH) approached Maqmal Dhareb in the centre of Al-Naqi’e, prayed one prostration there, and said to Haisam: I am appointing you for this valley. So, once anyone who comes from here pointing to the sunrise or sunset directions, I prevent him. He said: I am a man having only daughters, and no one to assist me. He said, the Prophet (PBUH) said: “The Almighty Allah will give you a boy and will provide you with an ally. So he worked on it, and, thereafter, he had a boy. Governors continued to appoint him as mayor from the time of the Prophet (PBUH) onwards, and the governor of Medina appointed him, until Dawood bin Issa came, so he left the position in the year 198, as the people left him for fear, so no one remained to be appointed by him for that position since then. In the book “Al-Muwattaa”, Yahya bin Sa’eed was quoted as saying that Omar used to be carried in a single year on forty thousand camels, carrying a man to Al-Sham (Syria) on a camel and carrying two men to Iraq on one camel. Malek was quoted as stating that Omar, God bless him, prepared forty thousand horses to carry those who have no horses to ride, during the Jihad (conquest) time.
