Masjid Al-Kou’a (The Elbow Mosque) or (The Stop Mosque) is located within the botanical gardens of the western mountain route. It is attributed to Addas; a Christian boy, the servant of Utbah bin Rabi’a, who had a famous story with the Prophet (PBUH) when he came to Al-Ta’if. This story is recorded in the prophetic tradition books. It is believed that the Prophet (PBUH) stood at or near it when he came to Al-Ta’if for the first time. Therefore it is called (The Stop Mosque). It is said that the Prophet (PBUH) stood or leaned by it after entering Al-Ta’if, hence the name “The Elbow, or Al-Kou’a.”
