Having arrived in the outlaying environs of Medina, the Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH), spent a few nights at Quba, where he set-up the mosque on piety and devoutness (al-Taqwa). On the first Friday following the arrival of the Prophet (PBUH) at Quba, he took his way towards Medina. At Bani Salem bin Awf’s house, it was time for saying the Jum’a prayer (Friday Sermon). The Prophet (PBUH) stepped down and said the Jum’a prayer in the heart of the Ranona’a Valley. Afterwards, he continued his way to Medina. On the way to Medina, tribal men approached and grabbed the reins of his camel, offering: “Be our guest and have our people, supplies and protection.” “Release her, as she is ordered.” The Prophet (PBUH) answered. The camel proceeded on her track until she kneeled down near Bani Malek bin Al-Najjar house. The spot where the camel kneeled down was a place for drying dates, owned by two orphan boys from Bani Al-Najjar; Sahl and Shuhail, sons of Amr. They were being raised by Mu’ath bin Ghafra’a. The Prophet (PBUH) stepped down from the camel only when she settled down at that spot, stayed still without moving, and dropped her fore-neck on the ground. As the Prophet (PBUH) stepped down from his camel, Abu Ayoub bin Zaid Al-Ansari carried the luggage of the Prophet (PBUH) and placed it in his house, where the Prophet (PBUH) was hosted as a guest. The Prophet (PBUH) ordered building the Prophet mosque at the spot where the camel kneeled down. He took shared the Muhajereen (emigrants from Mecca) and Al-Ansar (supporters from Medina) in building the mosque. At the time of the Prophet (PBUH), the mosque was built of brick, with palm frond ceiling and palm wood columns. Abu Bakr had not added to it. Yet, Omar added to the mosque, and had it built, as at the time of the Prophet (PBUH), with bricks and palm fronds, and had its columns rebuilt with palm wood. Othman changed by adding substantially to the mosque, and had its wall built of stones.
