When the Prophet (PBUH) arrived in the south west of Medina, he stayed at an area called Quba, in Bani Amro bin Awf. He stayed there fourteen nights, before he arrived in Medina. He established Quba Mosque, which is the first mosque established in Islam. The Prophet (PBUH) participated by himself in constructing this mosque, with the companions, God bless them. He was the first to put a stone in the Qibla (Muslims prayer direction) of this Holy mosque. The Almighty Allah praised Quba Mosque in the Holy Quran, describing it as a mosque that was established on the basis of God-fearing and piety, from day one. God says: “Certainly the Masjid founded on piety from the very first day is more deserving that you should stand to offer Salah in it; for in it there are men who love to be purified; and Allah loves those who purify themselves.” Quba Mosque has a great benefit, as the Prophet (PBUH) said about it: “Whoever purifies himself at his home, then comes to Quba Mosque an prays therein, he shall be awarded as if he performed an Umrah (minor hajj).” Also, Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim stated that the Prophet (PBUH) used to go to Quba Mosque every Saturday on foot and riding, to pray two rak’as (kneeling). The companions, God bless them, were proven to have had interest in prayers at Quba Mosque, and urge it. Sa’ad bin Abu Waqqas, God bless him, was quoted as saying: “To pray at Quba is more beloved to me than to pray at Bait Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem).”
